My Favorite Vacation Destination

First, I would like to start my essay by saying for the past five years I have gone to Florida on my family vacation. We went back so many times because it really was my favorite vacation destination. As of June 19th, 2009 that has changed to Bethany, Delaware. It could be, because it is fresh in my memory or it could be because we had such a great time there.

When my family said we were going to Delaware this year, I wasn’t that excited. I thought “Boring!” but I was wrong. When we finally pulled up at our resort after a four hour drive, I thought it was beautiful. The first thing you see as you drive into our resort is a big clear blue sparkling swimming pool. It looked so refreshing I wanted to stop the car and jump right in. When we got inside our Bethany Bay Beach Resort, we were all excited about how nice it was.  My sister and I picked out our room and wasted no time and unpacked. My parents wanted to go to the grocery store and of course we wanted to go swimming.

We went to the grocery store first to get some food and snacks for the week and then we hit the pool. It felt a little chilly outside, but the water felt warm. It was a long day so we decided to get some rest. We got up early the next day and headed out to Ocean City Maryland with our beach bags in hand. It was pretty chilly so we thought the day was not going to turn out well, so we made some sand castles and walked the boardwalks. On our walk we saw Ripley’s Believe It or Not. My sister and I went in alone and were a little nervous at first, but it was a walk through a museum filled with fun and interesting facts.  For example, did you know the world’s largest man weighed 1,600 lbs? That was very interesting. It got hotter and hotter as the day went on and the sun was now coming out so we went swimming.

Later on in the evening we went to Jolly Rogers Amusement Park and went on many rides. Roller Coasters, swings, my favorite, and the pirate ship. As the week went on we did tons of fun things. One day we rented two seater bicycles and rode around Rehoboth Beach for hours. When the sun went down we played lots of miniature golf and I even got a hole in one! As we went to many different arcades and amusement parks, we always stopped at Candy Kitchen. I would get snowcaps and my sister would get fudge.

One day it really pored so we shopped all day at the Rehoboth Outlets. My parents got lots of things and I got some clothes too. We were exhausted! The next day we were leaving and my Aunt and Uncle and cousins were coming to the same place. When they got there, we stayed the whole day together. Our parents played tennis while we went swimming all day. It was lots of fun. We went back to the unit and we ate pizza and watched movies. Then we had to go home. I was so sad to leave because we had such a great time!  We asked our parents if we could go back another time and they said yes! If you think you have to go on a plane and go far away to have a great vacation, you really don’t. You should try Delaware to see a beautiful beach or to just relax. You won’t be disappointed! If you want to golf, fish, swim, go out to eat, shop, or go to parks, it’s all there! Maybe next year we will try another beach in another state. It’s fun to try different places. I’ll be sure to let you know where we go next year!  (Courtney Allen, Age 11)
